MARITECH Talent Project needs analysis results paper

From 11th until 12th of December 2024, the International Conference on Advancing Sustainable Futures (ICASF 2024) took place at the Ritz Carlton, Khor Al Maqta'a, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Ms Lydia Papadaki (Researcher ATHENA RC) presented the paper with title: “Preparing the Maritime Workforce for the Twin Transition: Skill Priorities and Educational Needs” at the Track “Advancing Antipoverty Solutions: Bridging Innovation, Sustainability, and Digital Transformation”, chaired by Dr. Jacob Cherian, Professor of Management, Abu Dhabi University. She showed the results of the work done for the Horizon Europe project MariTech Talent Programme, which has received funding from the from the HORIZON-CL4-2023-HUMAN-01 with Reference Number 101135888.

This study aimed to identify the most in-demand maritime occupations, the most prominent digital and green skills, and the minimum educational requirements for these professions. It used desk and field research to investigate sectors such as shipping, ports, shipbuilding, supply chain management, maritime logistics, and marine technology. The goal was to identify job market deficiencies and prioritize green and digital skills for future educational and training programs in the maritime sectors.
